Powering the track, powering the people. tem is proud to be an official sponsor of Silverstone.

Silverstone is a name that needs no introduction. As the home of British motorsport and one of the most iconic circuits in the world, it stands for speed, skill and spectacle. But behind the roar of the engines and the thrill of race day, Silverstone is leading a quieter revolution. One built not just for podiums, but for the planet.

A venue that’s always been ahead

From the first British Grand Prix in 1950 to today’s packed calendar of events – including Formula 1, MotoGP and Silverstone Festival – Silverstone has never stood still. More than just a racetrack, it’s a global destination and a hub of innovation where motorsport history is made.

Whether it’s your first time in the grandstands or your fiftieth, the energy is unmatched, drawing generations of fans together for the atmosphere, the excitement, and the sense of what’s possible when passion meets progress.

Changing the game – on and off the track

Despite its global profile, Silverstone is very much grounded in its local roots. It’s a place where world-class teams share space with local volunteers, small businesses and emerging talent. And with that visibility comes responsibility. Not just to put on great events, but to lead by example.

That’s what Silverstone’s Shift to Zero strategy is all about: not just reducing impact, but setting a new standard for sustainability in sport.

And big change is already happening. More than 2,700 solar panels now cover the roof of its iconic Wing building, generating around 10% of its power. 90 EV charging points are making low-carbon travel easier for teams, staff and fans. Single-use plastic has been fully eliminated on site, with 27 water refill stations replacing hundreds of thousands of plastic bottles. And having sent zero waste to landfill since 2018, Silverstone is now working towards recycling 60% of all waste by 2025.

People-powered progress

But sustainability at Silverstone isn’t just about infrastructure. It’s about people. From the Race Makers who volunteer to the Green Champions working behind the scenes, teams across the venue meet regularly to deliver initiatives that make a real difference, from nurturing talent at local schools to creating more sustainable hospitality.

Education is central, too. Through outreach programmes and fan engagement, Silverstone is helping the next generation understand what sustainable racing means and why it matters.

A new kind of energy partnership

In 2024, Silverstone took another step forward by partnering with tem to switch to RED™: built using our proprietary pricing and reconciliation engine, this is our answer to a modern, transparent utility experience for customers.

It’s a move that reflects Silverstone’s broader commitment: to be open, agile, and ahead of the curve. With RED™, Silverstone not only pays less for power, but ensures more money goes into the hands of renewable generators who are building a fairer energy system from the ground up.

“By running on RED™, we’re now paying less for fully transparent renewable energy while putting more money back into the pockets of generators,” says Stéphane Bazire, Head of Business Sustainability at Silverstone. “That hugely helps our business reduce its carbon footprint, which is a high priority for us.”

For Silverstone, the future isn’t something to wait for. It’s something to build. With every lap, every fan, and every decision.

And for everyone who comes through the gates – whether they’re watching a race, volunteering at an event, or designing the cars of tomorrow – Silverstone is showing what world-class looks like when you put purpose in pole position. In fact, the success of the Grand Prix this year just shows how Silverstone does things: putting people first.
