Clarity starts here
We cut the complexity from energy. Let's get you straight to the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.
Your questions about tem
Is tem a traditional utility?
No. We don’t buy power from the wholesale market, and we don’t operate like a traditional supplier.
Instead, RED™ connects businesses with a pool of renewable generators, who we work directly with. That removes middlemen and hidden fees, giving both sides fairer prices and greater efficiency.
You still get everything you’d expect from a utility — bills, usage insights, and customer support — but with more clarity. For compliance, we work with a licensed supply partner, so you’re fully protected under UK regulations while benefiting from tem’s modern and transparent approach.
Is RED™ the same as tem?
No. tem is the AI-native energy transaction infrastructure, changing how energy is priced, traded, and settled behind the scenes. RED™ is the utility that uses that system, giving businesses and generators access to clearer pricing and more predictable, fairer pricing.
Does tem have a UK supply licence?
No. We’ve chosen not to hold a licence because tem isn’t built to be another utility inside the old system - we’re rebuilding the infrastructure beneath it.
To stay fully compliant with UK regulations, we partner with an Ofgem-licensed supplier who manages requirements like meter registrations and compliance checks. That way, customers get the benefits of tem’s efficiency and transparency, with the protection of a licensed utility.
Is tem an energy broker?
No. tem isn’t a broker. We build the transaction layer that sits underneath how energy is priced and settled.
Businesses contract on RED™, tem’s modern utility, either directly or through a broker. Many brokers and energy consultants already use RED™ because it gives their clients lower pricing, more transparency, and fewer surprises.
Is tem only in the UK?
Today we operate in the UK, where we’re focused on cutting waste from the energy market and delivering fairer value for businesses and generators.
Why is transparency so important in energy?
Because opacity is how the system stays broken. When costs are hidden, middlemen add fees no one can see, and generators and businesses pay for it.
We believe every deal should be clear: from where the power comes from to how the price is built. Transparency is the first step to fairness, and it’s how better decisions get made for everyone in the market.

FAQs for Businesses
Every utility offers "best price". How are you different?
Traditional utilities today often get their energy prices from the wholesale market, which means layers of middlemen, hidden fees, and inefficiencies baked into every bill, making up as much as 30%.
At tem, we’ve taken a different path. We built RED™, our modern utility service, on top of our own pricing engine that connects businesses directly with renewable generators.
By running on our own transaction infrastructure and bypassing the wholesale market entirely, we cut out unnecessary markups and offer transparent pricing that’s closer to the real cost of energy.
It means better prices, deeper insights and more control, helping businesses across the UK pay less for energy and finally understand what they’re paying for.
I already buy 100% renewable energy. How is RED™ different?
Most suppliers claiming “100% renewable” are using REGOs, which are government certificates that allow them to offset fossil fuel use on paper. It’s a common approach, but it doesn’t tell you where your energy comes from or how much of your money actually supports clean generation.
RED™ is different. You get full visibility into your energy sourcing and spend. You’ll see exactly what portion of your usage and payment supports real renewable generators in our network.
Because energy flows through a shared grid, no supplier can claim the electrons you use are 100% renewable. But RED™ gives you something more valuable: a clear breakdown of the percentage of your energy tied to real, clean generators. This is more than just certificates.
If your business needs REGOs for reporting or compliance, we can provide them at an additional cost. But for real transparency, better pricing, and a smarter way to power your business, RED™ is the new standard.
I currently have an energy contract, can I still use RED™?
Don't wait until the last minute to start searching for the best deal on your next energy contract. The earlier you start, the more options you'll have and the better your chances of finding a great deal!

How does tem manage risk?
Energy companies tend to fail for one reason: exposure to wholesale volatility and layered transaction costs they can’t control.
tem is built differently. We reduce risk by rebuilding the transaction layer itself - pricing and settling energy closer to its real cost, without relying on speculative wholesale positions. That structure lowers volatility and avoids the cost shocks that catch traditional suppliers out.
tem is backed by long-term investment and already supports large UK businesses and generators. The system is built to last - not to trade its way through the next cycle.
Do I need to change my meter?
If you have a half-hourly meter and can switch supplier, you’re ready to choose tem. The process is straightforward and we’ll guide you through it.
How much could I save on my bill?
Across tem, businesses typically see savings of around 30%, because we remove layers of transaction cost rather than trying to out-trade the market.
What matters more though is how those savings hold up. tem isn’t built on wholesale speculation, so prices aren’t exposed to the same swings that caught many suppliers out in 2022. By pricing energy closer to its real cost, we aim to deliver savings that are clearer, more predictable, and less prone to shock.
Are these savings too good to be true?
We get this a lot. After years of inflated bills, it can be hard to believe there’s another way.
Here’s the truth: today’s wholesale prices are tied to gas, even when your power comes from renewables. That link keeps costs higher than they need to be.
tem breaks that link wherever possible. By replacing the wholesale system with a more efficient way to price and settle transactions, we’ve already saved businesses over £30m while putting more money back into the hands of renewable generators.
So, is this just exempt supply?
No. RED™ is our utility experience powered by our intelligent pricing engine. It bypasses the traditional wholesale market and helps customers save and earn with a transparent, tech-driven system.
Exempt Supply is a government scheme that reduces extra charges for eligible businesses and generators. A 2024 update (known as P442) made it fairer and more accessible, so we moved fast, applying on behalf of RED™ customers to unlock even more value.
We handle the full process by checking eligibility, preparing the paperwork, and liaising with the central body. If you're approved, you get extra savings or earnings on top of what RED™ already delivers.
By acting quickly on P442, we made sure our customers, and not just the industry giants, could benefit. So far, we’ve unlocked hundreds of thousands of pounds in extra value across the RED™ community.
FAQs for Generators
How does tem work for generators?
In short, we cut out the wholesale market that squeezes the margins for generators. Meaning, by buying and selling through the wholesale energy, you lose out on revenue while middlemen take their slice of the action.
At tem, we’ve built the new foundational layer for how those transactions get processed, which can power any energy market with better, fairer pricing. Our pricing engine eliminates the mess and balances generators selling and businesses buying, in one place. The result? Generators see a better return and have a better selling experience. It’s that simple.
What types of renewable generation can I sell through tem?
We’re open! Solar, wind, hydro, anaerobic digestion. Whether you're running a rural solar array or a mid-size wind farm, tem can help you sell directly to businesses who want verifiable, homegrown energy. Our AI-native engine optimises energy profiles against business profiles in our portfolio, so whatever you produce and however you produce it, we’ve got businesses ready to buy.
Do you work with non-renewable generators?
No. tem only contracts directly with renewable generators.
Where we need to balance supply, we work with a third party, Versa Energy, to cover the difference. That means a small share of energy is non-renewable — usually less than 10% — but we always show this openly.
We’d rather be clear about the mix than hide behind offset certificates or REGOs. The more renewable generators join us, the closer we get to 100%.
Is tem suitable for anyone? What about energy funds or small-scale generators?
Yes, we take all shapes and sizes, from large portfolios to micro-sites. To ensure we are as resilient and reliable as possible, we encourage diversity! Manage a farm? Institutional investor? Let’s talk. We work with all types of asset owners and our model supports single-site generation, multi-site portfolios, whether operational or new build, with transparency and better economics built in.
Can I see my earnings over time?
Generators can view daily generation amounts and earnings over the course of time as an interactive graph, so you get the full picture, not just a monthly paycheque.
Do I need to commit long-term to use tem?
Start small. Go big. It’s your risk appetite. It’s your preference for flexibility vs predictability. Typically, we see generators sign up for a year and then keep renewing, year after year. Our renewal rate is over 95% for generators, if that’s any indication. So yes, we want to build a long-term relationship, but we’re happy to let you set the pace.
Does tem provide PPAs?
tem does not offer traditional Power Purchase Agreements used by most aggregators or suppliers. Instead, tem enables direct energy transactions between generators and businesses through its RED™ platform. It’s a new, simpler way of transacting.
When will I recieve payment?
Now we’re down to brass tacks. We aim to get you paid quickly and efficiently. In fact, our goal is to pay you 20% faster than typical supplier terms. What that means is, if you’ve chosen self-billing on your contract with us, you will not need to raise invoices. We’ll simply issue your invoice within 10 business days after month-end, detailing your export amount and payment due. You will then be paid within 10 business days of that date.
