Lumya

Lumya

Home away from home, in the heart of Cardiff.

The first time you live away from home, the smallest things feel enormous. The keys are yours. The space is yours. The choices of what to eat, when to sleep, who to let in are yours. It's the beginning of a new chapter. Raymond and his team exist to make sure that first chapter starts on solid ground.

Cardiff city centre hums at its own pace: lecture theatres filling, coffee shops opening, the particular restlessness of a student city finding its morning rhythm. Inside two buildings, just a short walk from all of it, more than 300 students are doing the same. Bedrooms for quiet focus. Shared kitchens where strangers become friends. The city on the doorstep, and somewhere genuinely comfortable to come back to. The team’s days are built around the small things that make a big difference. Questions answered quickly. A replaced access card. The residents here are, for the most part, living on their own for the very first time. That's not a small thing, and the team knows it.

“ Moving out for the first time is one of the biggest things a young person does. We make sure it goes well.”

They show up as people who actually want to help rather than a layer of administration. Raymond, the property manager across both Lumya buildings, says the best part of the job is simply connecting with the students. Knowing what they need and finding a way to provide it. It sounds modest. It isn't. Done well, it means a student finishes their year having barely thought about their accommodation, which is exactly the point. The team knows that a warm and friendly atmosphere isn't something you can manufacture. But you can build the conditions for it. They have been doing exactly that, quietly and consistently, one resident at a time. The students who pass through call it home. For Raymond, that’s enough.
