How one rugby club saved £10K, and took back control of their energy
Gorseinon RFC saved £10,000 in their first year with tem, over a third of their annual turnover. That wasn’t a fluke. It was the result of a system that works differently.
Impact at a glance
Energy bill before tem | Annual savings with tem | Reduction | Impact on community |
|---|---|---|---|
£27,000/year | £10,000/year | £10,000/year | More money to invest back into in the club, like solar panels |
Across the UK, community clubs are being priced out by a system that rewards inefficiency. Hidden markups. Chaotic billing. Zero accountability.
The current energy market wasn’t built for places like Gorseinon Rugby and Football Club.
tem is fixing that, one site at a time.

For rugby club Gorseinon RFC, every penny counts
Founded in 1883, Gorseinon RFC is a local rugby club with a long-standing legacy in its Welsh community. With over 150 players across youth and adult teams, they’re known for nurturing homegrown talent.
But it’s what happens off the pitch that makes the club truly special.
Each year, over 9,000 people use the club’s space, from NHS staff and toddler groups to charity fundraisers and community events. Run by a 12-person volunteer committee, the club operates with no major benefactors and a £30,000 annual turnover.
So when their energy costs started climbing after a supplier reclassification, the impact was existential.
The old energy system took its toll
After upgrading their voltage supply, Gorseinon was moved to a commercial energy contract from their previous supplier. Overnight, their bills ballooned. Energy costs jumped threefold, from £6–8K to £27,000. Even after renegotiation, they were still paying three times more than before, even though they did not change suppliers.
And support? Non-existent. The committee spent hours on hold with suppliers, trying to understand bills that made no sense.
Having spent all of a £40k grant on upgrading their floodlights, they had maxed out their options for further financial support.
The old system had stopped working for them.

Switching to tem changed the game
Gorseinon RFC saved £10,000 in their first year with tem, over a third of their annual turnover. That wasn’t a fluke. It was the result of a system that works differently.
Instead of baking in risk premiums or bundling hidden costs, tem gives sites access to fair, transparent pricing by cutting out middlemen and inefficiencies. More of what you pay goes to the people generating the energy, not layers of outdated supply chain.
tem worked closely with the club to answer all their questions and give them the best rate. ****The switch itself? Seamless. No hoops. No confusion. Just energy that works the way it should.

A club built on values, powered by transparency
Gorseinon RFC is a community engine. They offer space for free to toddler groups, make rooms available to local charities at affordable rates, and recently helped raise £20,000 for local mums in crisis.
Energy used to be a burden. Now it’s an enabler.
With predictable costs and a fairer contract, they’re free to invest in the things that matter like their players, their people, and their future.
“We finally feel in control of something that used to control us.”
Powering change, one customer at a time
Gorseinon’s story isn’t just heartwarming. It’s a sign of what’s possible. tem’s RED™ model connects sites to renewable, transparent energy, cutting out waste, middlemen, and murky pricing. We make power predictable and fair.
One club taking control might seem small. But every site like Gorseinon is proof that the system can work differently.
